Safety

The safety of our guests is our number one priority at Peak Adventures.

We have extensive safety systems in place for client protection. All of our guides are licensed ski guides with the Idaho Outfitters board, have level II avalanche certification, and are either certified as Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) givers or Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). Our guides are well trained and practiced in carrying out our emergency protocols. Our team monitors the weather and snow-pack on a daily basis throughout the season, making observations and decisions that are specifically geared towards minimizing accident risk. These decisions are made based on years of extensive training and experience.

If an accident occurs both the lead and tail guide carry a first aid pack, along with extra equipment that is stored on the snowcat. The heated yurt also has first aid equipment. If transportation by a helicopter to a hospital is needed we have landing sites on file with local Medical Evacuation Helicopter teams. Snowmobiles are also available for rapid transportation.

Communications is an important part of accident mitigation and prevention. Peak Adventures guides and drivers are constantly in contact via radio, and linked with our headquarters in Cataldo via a radio repeater that provides cellular phone reception for emergencies.

In addition to our own training, we provide backcountry safety training to all of the clients who join us for an adventure. All clients are instructed in our emergency procedures and general backcountry safety. Those clients venturing into avalanche terrain on guided tours will be instructed in transceiver use and basic avalanche rescue techniques.

Peak Adventures has been operating for 13 years and has never had an accident that involved avalanches. Runs are chosen carefully for the quality of the snow, as well as the safety of our guests.

While we make every effort to ensure the safety of our clients, it is impossible to completely eliminate all risks involved with outdoor pursuits. For this reason guests must read and complete a liability waiver prior to their trip. We are happy to answer any questions about safety you may have.
